The values were different even the powdered samples were heated at various temperature, i.e., 60, 110, 150, and 200 ☌. The liquid limit values obtained for montmorillonite-rich soils, i.e., expansive clays, are higher in the case of the Casagrande method than the cone penetration method. It was observed that for the same soil, there is a difference in liquid limit values by both the methods. In this paper, the laboratory liquid limit test was performed on two bentonites samples by the Casagrande method (25 number of blows at the liquid limit) and cone penetration method (20 mm penetration at the liquid limit). In the case of expansive clays, it mainly relies on the percentage of montmorillonite present in the clay. It depends upon the type of mineral that the cohesive soil possesses. The liquid limit is an essential property of a cohesive soil, which defines the water content of the soil at the boundary between solid to a liquid consistency phase.
